End of an Era

For my first post of the year I'm going to dedicate the page to the Berlin Center school.  I've gone past this building a few times in my travels and felt sad for the way it had fallen into disrepair.  And now I read where it's been razed and tomorrow it's going to be burned. There's more going up in flames than just old wood though.

There was a time, believe it or not, when there wasn't a school bus that picked you up every morning and took you into town for class. Back in the 'Good ol' days' there was a country school every few miles that taught the basics. Reading, Writing, and 'Rithmatic. But not only did they teach education they fostered friendships and life skills that we carry with us yet today.

So tomorrow if you happen to be driving by and see the smoke, remember it's not just an old building that's being buried. It's all that building stood for, all it represented. Not just a funeral but a Viking funeral. It's earned its place in Valhalla.
